The Department of Otorhinolaryngology offers a four-week external rotation in otolaryngology. Medical students will participate in clinic, the operating room and the inpatient floor service. They will gain exposure to general otolaryngology and subspecialties including head and neck surgery, rhinology, laryngology, sleep, plastic reconstructive surgery, otology and pediatric otolaryngology. Students work one-on-one with faculty in clinic and with the resident team in the OR and on the inpatient floors.
We accept seniors from LCME-accredited or COCA-accredited medical schools only. The course number is SUR 759.
All applicants must meet these requirements:
- Have no preclinical or clinical failures
- Have an intention to pursue a career in Otorhinolaryngology
- Have a strong interest in pursuing residency training at Rush

Must have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Level 1 - Statement of Interest

Applicants who are accepted for a rotation will then be asked to complete the online Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) in order to register the course with RUSH Medical College. Of note, do not apply to VSAS unless you have been notified of acceptance for a rotation.
All students must have proof of adequate immunizations and proof of adequate malpractice insurance. This information will be required to be submitted with your VSAS documentation.
