Submit dossier to Department Chairperson
- Department Chairperson gets input from department Faculty Advisory Committee
- Department Faculty Advisory Committee makes recommendation to department chair
- Department Chairperson submits recommendation to Faculty Council
- Faculty Council submits recommendation to Dean
- If approved by Faculty Council, Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to faculty member

External Review Names*
*Work with Department Chair to generate list of at least 3-5 external reviewers
- Criteria for external reviewers:
- Knowledgeable in the applicant's field
- Of equal or higher rank than the one being sought
- Able to evaluate the individual's accomplishments relative to rank criteria
- Reviewers should be able to provide an objective evaluation of the applicant's scholarly work and would not include previous/current supervisors, employers or faculty peers of the applicant
Protocol
Applies to: Appointment, Promotion
Associate Professor and Professor follow same procedure as instructor/assistant professor protocol except there is no reappointment review
- Submit dossier to Department Chairperson
- Department Chair submits dossier to department Faculty Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee makes recommendation to Department Chair
- Department chairperson contacts at least three of the external reviewers
- Sends RUSH CON appointment/promotions criteria, candidate's dossier (CV, documentation of qualifications for rank, and two to three representative articles authored by the candidate)
- Requests a letter of recommendation and a copy of the reviewer's CV
- Letters of recommendation should state how RUSH CON promotion criteria are met and are returned to the department chair
- Department Chair writes letter of support and submits with dossier and external review letters to Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee
- Faculty Appointments and Promotions Committee submits recommendation to Faculty Council
- Faculty Council submits recommendation to Dean
- If approved by Faculty Council and the Dean, the recommendation is forwarded to Provost
- Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to faculty member

- For Associate Professor and Professor, Department Chairperson sends appointment for new faculty request to Appointments and Promotions Committee for review, and the committee submits recommendation to Faculty Council
- Faculty Council submits recommendation to Dean
- If approved by Faculty Council, Dean and Provost approval letters are provided to faculty member
