How to Apply

Addiction Medicine is a subspecialty of preventative medicine concerned with the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of persons with the disease of addiction, those with substance-related health conditions, and those who show unhealthy use of substances, including nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications, and other licit and illicit drugs. Physicians in this subspecialty also help family members whose health and functioning are affected by a loved one’s substance use or addiction. Rush University Medical Center Resources

The RUSH Addiction Medicine Fellowship Training Program is affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. We look for applicants with a clear passion for addiction medicine who want to make Chicago their home for the next year and beyond. We seek applicants with demonstrated leadership skills, who are interested in improving their community, who are flexible, adaptable, and can work well as a team member.

We accept applications from July through November each year. A complete application must include the following:

  • At least three letters of recommendation. We prefer letters from faculty directly supervising your clinical or scholarly work.
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts. We prefer the USMLE but will accept either test.
  • Personal statement
  • Photo

We do not have any USMLE or COMLEX minimum score requirements or fail attempt limits. We do like to see that residents have passed both Step 2 / Level 2 exams before the MATCH. Please update your transcript in ERAS as we check for application updates throughout the recruitment season. Our program cannot sponsor J1 and H-1B visas.

We will begin reviewing and screening application files as soon as they are completed and offer interviews in late August. If you receive an invitation to interview, please reply as soon as possible to arrange an interview date since the days can fill quickly.

Post-Interview Communication:  We will abide by the NRMP “Code of Conduct.” We are limited in how we communicate with you. We can answer follow-up questions, but can not discuss much else!
