CAPriCORN Current Studies
Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI)
This research initiative is a groundbreaking approach to disease prevention and treatment based on individual differences in environment, genes, and lifestyle. The goal of this study is to engage a group of 1 million research participants who will share biological samples, genetic data and diet/lifestyle information, all linked to their electronic health records. This data will allow researchers to develop more precise treatments for many diseases and health conditions.

PRagmatic EValuation of evENTs And Benefits of Lipid-lowering in oldEr adults (PREVENTABLE)
PREVENTABLE is one of the largest research studies in older adults. We aim to learn if taking a statin, a commonly used drug to lower cholesterol, could help older adults live well for longer by preventing dementia, disability, or heart disease. The benefits of taking statins for older adults without heart disease are not fully understood. Results from PREVENTABLE will help us learn if taking a statin is helpful for older adults.

Aspirin Dosing: A Patient-centric Trial Assessing Benefits and Long-Term Effectiveness (ADAPTABLE)
The purpose of ADAPTABLE is to compare the effectiveness of two daily doses of aspirin widely used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in individuals living with heart disease. What we will learn from the ADAPTABLE study will improve care and outcomes for patients with heart disease and could prevent as many as 88,800 deaths per year around the world.

Comparative Incidence and Outcomes of COVID-19 in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients Versus Waitlisted Patients: A Multicenter Study
The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence and outcomes of COVID-19 in solid organ transplant recipients and waitlisted patients, in order to provide insight regarding waitlist and transplant management during the COVID-19 pandemic.
RUSH principal investigator: Carlos Santos, MD
Post- Colonoscopy Colorectal Cancer (PCCRC) Cohort Survey
The purpose of this study is to examine the incidence of region-wide PCCRC and its correlation to adenoma detection rates and serrated polyp detection rates, especially in patients with Lynch Syndrome.
RUSH principal investigator: Joshua Melson, MD, MPH
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) Patients Cohort Study
The purpose of this study is to describe the prevalence and clinical characteristics of PD in SGM patients and compare treatment outcomes of SGM and non-SGM patients to examine existing disparities.
RUSH principal investigator: Roshni Patel, MD; Natalie Witek, MD, MS
CAPriCORN Anemia Survey
The purpose of this study is to understand whether blood transfusions help people with a low blood count have more energy.
RUSH principal investigator: Jisu Kim, MD
CAPriCORN Asthma Survey
The purpose of this study is to determine how people are affected by asthma and other health conditions.
RUSH principal investigator: Christopher Codispoti, MD; Sindhura Bandi, MD
Characterization of CAPriCORN Sickle Cell Disease Population
The purpose of this research study is to understand how sickle cell disease affects the everyday life of individuals with this health condition.
RUSH principal investigator: Lisa Boggio, MD
CAPriCORN Weight Survey
The purpose of this research study is to better understand overweight and obesity. Overweight and obesity are highly prevalent conditions, affecting more than two-thirds of U.S. adults. These conditions are associated an increased risk of illness including conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.
RUSH principal investigator: Steven K. Rothschild, MD; Bradley Appelhans, PhD
Recurrent Clostridium difficile Infection (RCDI) Cohort Survey
The purpose of this study is to better understand how the various symptoms of this condition affect individuals lives.
