Our department vision is to "Drive health equity by transforming healthcare via educating nursing professionals through innovation science, scholarship and practice in the care of women, children and their families."
Innovative Science and Scholarship
Departmental faculty include highly qualified clinicians, educators and scientists who share their knowledge and expertise as published authors; speakers at local, regional, national, and international professional meetings; active leaders in professional organizations; editors of books; and as practice, educational, and research leaders and consultants. Faculty have received funding from National Institutes of Health among other foundations and agencies that support leading edge research. Funded areas of research include parent-training programs (Chicago Parent Program and Building Bridges to Fatherhood) for at-risk families living in low-income, ethnic minority communities, supporting paternal involvement in African American non-resident fathers and reducing disparities in breastfeeding to improve morbidity and mortality for vulnerable infants and development, pilot testing, and deployment of technology-enhanced interventions that address co-occurring interpersonal violence, mental health co-morbidities, and substance use.
