American Medical Student Association (AMSA)

Mission

The Rush Medical College Chapter of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is a group of Rush Medical College students who are registered members of AMSA and recognize AMSA as a professional national organization designed to address the personal and social concerns of physicians-in-training at any level. The intention of this chapter is to uphold AMSA’s mission: to offer Rush Medical College students important non-traditional learning experiences, which will serve to supplement their personal training. Six committees (Gender and Sexuality; Global Health; Health Policy; Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in Health (REACH); Medical Education; Trainee Wellness and Professionalism) operate under the leadership of two Co-Presidents, a Secretary, and Treasurer. Action Committee Chairs organize activities, education, and resources that are available to the entire Rush Medical Student body and promote the committee’s passions and goals. Examples include lunch talks with speakers, quarterly REACH Dinners with faculty advisor David Ansell, MD, lobbying visits, and an annual global health service trip. Additionally, members have the opportunity to attend the national AMSA convention in March and participate in national advocacy efforts alongside AMSA students from medical schools across the country.
