On behalf of the faculty of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, I would like to welcome you to our website. Take a few minutes to look around and discover the many ways that we are improving the health of our communities while advancing the profession through an ongoing commitment to primary care education and research.
The department takes pride in a diverse faculty that blends teaching with clinical and community service, and we are fortunate to leverage the resources of a world-class medical center to offer trainees a multitude of collaborative opportunities. As identified in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mission, we are an actively anti-racist department, working to eradicate health inequities in Chicago and the region.
Our faculty are engaged in all aspects of medical education and are repeatedly recognized by learners as outstanding mentors and teachers. In our Family Medicine Leadership Program, select medical students gain invaluable longitudinal experiences in primary care beginning their first year of medical school and through all four years.
The RUSH Copley Family Medicine Residency in Aurora, Illinois, offers a well-rounded training program serving Illinois’ second largest city. Residents in this unopposed program provide care throughout the hospital and gain robust inpatient and outpatient clinical skills, taught by deeply committed faculty with a breadth of expertise.
In 2022 we will welcome residents to our new program, the RUSH Esperanza Health Center Family Medicine Residency. Based at one of the midwest’s leading Federally Qualified Health Centers, this program’s mission is to train future leaders in Family Medicine who are dedicated to innovation, social justice, and community engagement.
We are also engaged in a growing research enterprise, focused on community-engaged research, spotlighting health disparities and seeking evidence based solutions. Faculty are involved in COVID vaccine trials, studies of telemedicine platforms for the treatment of depression, patient centered outcomes research using the CAPRiCORN data set, and NIH-funded behavioral clinical trials focusing on Community Health Workers and other community-based strategies to improve health outcomes.
At our heart, however, is a focus on outstanding, humanistic patient care for all. We are steeped in a culture of team based care and community outreach representing core values of RUSH as an institution. Our faculty are engaged in patient safety and quality initiatives across the medical center, and we are proud of building an inspired atmosphere in which to practice family medicine.
Whether you are a patient looking for a primary care physician, a student or resident looking for a place to learn, or a clinician looking for the best place to practice medicine, you are welcome. Take a look around, and feel free to contact us with any questions.
