What veterans education benefits are available?
Aid for eligible veterans includes the following:
- Post-9/11 GI Bill®: This provides you tuition, fees, books/supplies and housing assistance. Tuition and fees are paid directly to Rush by the VA. Tuition and Fees assistance is capped at $28,937.09 for the 2024/2025 academic year. Benefit rates vary based on your circumstances. You may be able to transfer your benefits to a dependent.
- Yellow Ribbon Program: If you are entitled to the maximum GI Bill® benefit rate, you are eligible to apply for additional tuition and fee assistance if your costs exceed the $28,937.09 cap. The amount of additional assistance available and the number of students able to be supported are limited and varies by college. Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who have received Yellow Ribbon assistance will have preference for these funds in future academic years. Details are available on the VA's Yellow Ribbon Program information page.
- Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty (MGIB-AD Chapter 30)
- Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR Chapter 1606)
- Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP Chapter 1607)
- Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP Chapter 32)

Using your benefits
If you are interested in using your benefits at Rush for the first time, please answer these questions:
Is it your first time using VA education benefits?
If so, apply for benefits through the VA. If you have never used your veterans benefits at an institution before, this step must be complete.
Is this your first time using VA educational benefits at Rush?
If so, submit form 22-5495 online. If you have used veterans education benefits before, but you are a first-time benefits-user at Rush University, you must submit the appropriate form.
Are you a first-time veteran at Rush?
First-time veterans at Rush University must provide a copy of their eligibility letter from the VA (as well as any change of program forms including form 22-1995 or form 22-5495) to the Office of Student Financial Aid before benefits can be certified with the VA. All documents can be mailed, faxed or scanned and emailed to our office. Please be sure to indicate your name and student ID number (or Social Security Number) on all documents.
