Many of the awardees are early stage investigators or new investigators indicating RUSH's commitment to investigators in early career researchers.
* Early-Stage Investigator: a PI who has completed their terminal research degree or end of post-graduate training, whichever date is later, within the past 10 years and has not previously competed successfully for a substantial NIH independent research award.
# New Investigator: a PI who has not previously competed successfully as a PI for a substantial NIH independent research award (RO1 or its equivalent).
