Our Foot and Ankle Fellowship Program has an active teaching schedule with clinical, surgical, and laboratory teaching. The fellowship program is run in conjunction with the orthopedic residency program with common staff, faculty, and resources.
All fellows’ training will be divided to allow the opportunity to rotate equally with our entire foot and ankle faculty. The rotation will consist of one or two month rotations in a mentor model. The fellows are supervised in clinic, their research, and the operating room with near constant and continuous one on one feedback by our clinical faculty. You’ll spend time in various setting/locations as well as RUSH and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. Each fellow has approximately 40-50 hours per week supervised in this fashion.
Surgical procedures of the week are discussed at a weekly orthopedic foot and ankle conference which consists of case presentations from the fellow. Once a month the fellow will be required to prepare and present a powerpoint presentation on a foot and ankle topic to the group. There is also monthly journal club.
There is no dedicated research block. Clinical research occurs throughout the year. Fellows will be expected to submit a minimum of two manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal publication prior to graduation.
The foot and ankle service is the primary medical coverage for the Joffrey Ballet with Dr. Leda Ghannad. Responsibilities consist of coverage of various Chicago performances and participate in training room responsibilities throughout the year.
We are also active participants in the Hearts to Soles yearly homeless shelter shoe wear and foot exam event. Fellows will assist in the coordination and coverage of the yearly event on the designated time, typically around or after Thanksgiving.
How to apply
Interested applicants must have completed an accredited orthopedic surgery residency program and must also be at the appropriate level of training. Our fellowship participates in the SF Match Program.
