Welcome to the Rush University Department of Anesthesiology website! We are excited that you are interested in our program and would like to share with you what makes Rush Anesthesia a unique and outstanding place to train.
The clinical training you will receive at Rush will prepare you to become astute clinicians and leaders in the field of anesthesia. The CA-0 year is tailored to provide a strong and comprehensive foundation to transition to clinical anesthesia with rotations in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and ICU. Interns will also have early exposure and involvement with the anesthesia department including rotations in our pain clinic, preoperative evaluation clinic, and two months of anesthesia bootcamp accompanied by daily lectures and progressive independence in the operating rooms.
The progression from CA-1 to CA-3 year provides countless opportunities for complex patients and cases in a learning environment with attendings who are committed to teaching and fostering growth. Our residents have early exposure to subspecialties CA1/beginning CA2 year to help facilitate fellowship pursuits and increase variety of intraoperative experiences including cardiac, pediatrics, transplants, neurosurgery, OB, SICU/NSICU and regional. Many offsite rotations are also available for increased diversity of training.
Education at Rush is supported through didactics, journal clubs, simulations, conference funding, research opportunities and mentorship programs. Residents at Rush are encouraged to be independent and autonomous thinkers early with the knowledgebase and skills to be leaders in and out of the OR. Alongside this the department sponsors wellness events for resident bonding outside of the hospital. Residents are also given many GME benefits including free parking, educational funds, and annual meal stipends.
