Doctor of Audiology (AuD)

Introduction

Our Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program combines academics with clinical experiences to train students to be experts in the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and management of hearing, balance, and related disorders.

Audiologists administer and interpret tests that assess hearing, balance, facial nerve function, auditory processing abilities, and tinnitus problems in patients of all ages. They provide rehabilitation services that includes hearing aids, cochlear implants, and osseointegrated devices to help people cope with hearing loss. They also provide patient education, counseling, auditory and visual communication training, tinnitus management, and communication strategy training.

In the RUSH AuD program, didactic coursework is designed and sequenced to provide you with the scientific and professional education you need to be a highly trained audiologist. Students progress through three levels of clinical education, including practicum, internships and a year-long, full-time externship. Clinical placements are offered both in RUSH-affiliated clinics and at off-campus sites in the greater Chicago area.

Graduates of the program have a 100% pass rate on the national Praxis examination. Our program is ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Hear From Our Students

Learn about some of our recent students, their experiences and why they chose Rush University.

  • Laura Rios will never forget the day she learned that her work options would no longer be limited because of her citizenship status. She heard the message loud and clear.

Now, as an audiologist-in-training, Rios wants to help people clearly hear similarly life-changing news, as well as ordinary, day-to-day sounds.

  • All of the stores in Kirsten Petrarca’s sleepy hometown in Rhode Island closed early every day. Her dream of becoming an audiologist, though, never shut down.

By 15 years old, Petrarca was learning sign language for fun with her friends and already had her mind set on becoming an audiologist.
