Interview Day at Rush Medical College

The interview day, often referred to as “Recruitment Day,” is an opportunity to imagine yourself as a medical student at Rush Medical College. The entire day is strategically designed with YOU in mind. Our goal is to learn about you and your motivation for a career in medicine, as well as showcase to you what makes Rush unique!

While the Recruitment Day schedule is subject to change, the information provided below should give you a better idea of what you can expect throughout the day.

Morning Welcome & Information Sessions

The morning will begin with a Welcome Session from RMC Admissions Leadership, followed by a number of brief, yet informative sessions from other RMC Administration. Our goal is to provide you with as much information on Rush as possible! Be sure to take notes and jot down any questions that arise, as you will have ample time throughout the day to ask questions of students, staff and faculty.

Interviews & Group Activity

During the course of the day you will participate in two separate interviews:

  • The Open-File Interview
  • The Administrative Interview

The Open-File Interview is a 40-minute conversation conducted by a faculty member at Rush Medical College. The goal of the Open-File Interview is to better understand your path to medicine, your goals and aspirations as a future physician, and your “fit” for Rush Medical College. This interview also allows time for you to ask questions of your interviewer.

The Administrative Interview is a 10 minute conversation with a member of our Admissions Executive Committee. The goal of the Administrative Interview is to consider your interpersonal and communication skills as they relate to a successful career in medicine.

In addition to your two interviews, you will participate in a 15-minute group activity with 3 – 5 of your interview day peers. There is no way to prepare for the group activity – just come ready to be creative and have a little fun!

Lunch & Campus Tours

One of the best parts of Recruitment Day is spending time with current RMC Students. For almost two hours you will have an opportunity to get the student perspective as you eat lunch and tour the Academic Center, Rush University Medical Center & nearby Cook County Hospital. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes or bring an extra pair, as you will be doing quite a bit of walking! Not to worry – we will provide a shuttle to and from Cook County Hospital during the snowy winter months.
