  • The focus of Chu's research team is on identifying the basic biological processes that regulate adaptation of malignant tumor cells to stressful environments, such as those produced by anti-cancer drugs, and thereby permit their survival in the presence of agents that would normally kill them. The group has directed recent attention to the understanding of cancer immunotherapy, with the aim not only to boost antitumor immunity, but also to understand the specific defects in tumor immunity and then normalize them to selectively modify a specific type of antitumor response in the right location rather than exacerbate a systemic immune response. This approach will lead to designing more effective normalization cancer immunotherapies, allowing for optimal combinatorial therapies and to extend the frontiers of more successful cancer treatment without degrading the patient’s quality of life.
