  • Denis Avey, PhD, is a molecular biologist and bioinformatician at the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center. His research focuses on uncovering the cellular and molecular determinants of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and cognitive decline. Recent focuses include spatial gene expression profiling of postmortem human brain tissue using cutting-edge technologies, including 10X Genomics Visium and Nanostring CosMx. At the RADC, Avey works closely with other members of the Human Cell Modeling Group, led by Yanling Wang, MD, PhD. 

    Avey received his PhD in cellular and molecular biology from Florida State University in 2016 and completed post-doctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine from 2016-2019 and at the RADC from 2019-2022 prior to joining the Rush faculty in 2023. He currently works remotely from Tampa, analyzing various -omics datasets.
