David Mallinson, PhD, is a population health scientist and health services researcher in the area of maternal, child, and reproductive health. He specializes in analyzing large administrative data sources, such as vital statistics and health insurance claims, to measure the impact of prenatal and early-life health exposures on outcomes for infants, mothers, and family members. This includes investigating socioeconomic, racial, and geographic disparities in prenatal health (care) and its consequences on family health outcomes. Recent projects examined racial and geographic variation in the uptake and benefit of pregnancy care coordination in the Medicaid population as well as variable impacts of prenatal opioid exposure on infant mortality. A secondary line of his research concerns the development and application of methods to estimate spillover effects within families—that is, how one person’s health can affect their family member’s health.
