Report a Concern

Confidential 24/7 reporting

Student Complaint Portal

Student complaints regarding services, academic programs, improper conduct, or other challenges impacting the student’s experience may be addressed with the specific staff or faculty affiliated with a particular issue. In the case where a student feels their complaint would be best handled through formal procedures, they can confidentially submit their complaints through the Student Complaint Portal. Certain complaints have specific procedures, such as Title IX sexual misconduct or Grade Appeals. Under circumstances where a student files a formal complaint through the Student Complaint Portal requiring a specific procedure or contact person, the complaint will automatically be routed to the appropriate area for additional review and follow-up. Students can report concerns anonymously through this mechanism.

RUSH Hotline and EthicsPoint

The RUSH Hotline is a telephone communications outlet that is provided to encourage the reporting of issues of concern by RUSH employees, faculty, and staff. This hotline is maintained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by an outside vendor that is contracted by RUSH. The Hotline is staffed by specially trained representatives. Reports can be made anonymously.

RUSH also provides the option of reporting issues of concern through an online web portal. The internet reporting services are also hosted by an outside vendor called EthicsPoint. These reports are handled similarly to reports that are made over the phone. Reporters can check back in the reporting portal for updates regarding the issue of concern. Visit the EthicsPoint web portal.

What can be reported?

The Student Complaint Portal (SCP) and the RUSH Hotline/EthicsPoint can be used to report a range of issues that might arise in academic or clinical settings. The range of issues can be from acts of injustice and mistreatment to acts of illegal conduct. All members of the RUSH community are required to report any known or suspected violations of laws or RUSH policies. Reporting can come from situations which are observed, heard, or suspected that a violation may have occurred. A main purpose of the SCP and RUSH Hotline/EthicsPoint is for anonymous use for those who are uncomfortable reporting a concern to their supervisor, college faculty/administrator, Corporate Compliance Officer, or to Human Resources. The SCP and Hotline/EthicsPoint provide a means to quickly report an act of mistreatment, suspected policy violation, or illegal activity, from any place at any time.

Concerns of any type can be reported to the Student Complaint Portal or RUSH Hotline/EthicsPoint. Areas where issues arise include:

  • Student/faculty relations
  • Research
  • Accounting and financial
  • Compliance with laws and university policies/standards
  • Privacy/confidentiality
  • Title IX
  • Harassment and inappropriate behavior
  • Equality violations
  • Classroom/lab/workplace safety
  • Fraud and theft

Non-retaliation

RUSH's Prohibition Against Retaliation policy strictly prohibits retaliating against any individual for reporting suspected or known policy violation or illegal activity. The policy helps assure individuals that report observations can be done without fear of loss of employment, impede their ability to advance at RUSH, or otherwise be subject to retaliation by co-workers, supervisors and others. This policy against retaliation applies whether the report of violation is made to a supervisor, the Compliance Office, and/or the RUSH Hotline/EthicsPoint. Any person who violates this prohibition will be subject to discipline in accordance with RUSH policy up to and including termination.

Reporting FAQs

May I report using either the internet or the phone?

Yes. EthicsPoint enables you to file a confidential, anonymous report via either the telephone or the internet.

Can I file a report from home and still remain anonymous?

A report from home, a neighbor’s computer, or any internet portal will remain secure and anonymous. An internet portal never identifies a visitor by screen name and the EthicsPoint system strips away internet addresses so that anonymity is totally maintained.

I am concerned that the information I provide EthicsPoint will ultimately reveal my identity. How can you assure me that will not happen?

The EthicsPoint system protects your anonymity. However, if you wish to remain anonymous, you (as a reporting party) need to ensure that the body of the report does not reveal your identity by accident. For example, “From my cube next to Jan Smith …” or “In my 33 years …”.

Is the telephone toll-free hot line confidential and anonymous too?

Yes. You will be asked to provide the same information that you would provide in an internet-based report and an interviewer will type your responses into the EthicsPoint website. These reports have the same security and confidentiality measures applied to them during delivery.
